Japanese commercial offends Maori group

Who gives a crap.

Some people are angry in New Zealand because a Japanese commercial used the haka dance without permission and made it look and sound like “crap”:

The Japanese commercial for Coke Zero, features popstar Namie Amuro alongside what advertising agency copy describes as “a troupe of studs from Kiwiland in the traditional Maori haka dance”.

The men are actors wearing jerseys similar to All Black kit, but without the silver fern, and their movements appear to be from the Ka Mate haka.

Ngati Toa are considered the custodians of Ka Mate. Spokesman Te Ariki Wi Neera said an advertising agency had approached the iwi through the New Zealand embassy in Tokyo.

“We told them that if they wanted to use Ka Mate they needed to talk to us first. They declined to engage when they saw we were serious about protecting it.”

He had not seen the ad, but was unimpressed after hearing it described: “We would have been happy to work with them, but it sounds like crap.”

The Best Seat Belt-Related Commercial Ever

This ad should win every award they have for those things. It’s an exceptionally created, and beautifly rendered TV spot about wearing your seat belt.  Everything from the music, to the cinematography, to the little girl’s angel wings is perfect, and it’s one of the best commercials I’ve seen in years.

Vintage Dalek Breakfast Commercial

If this 1977 commercial for the British cereal Wheetabix is to be believed, the Daleks apparently love eating breakfast. Perhaps the rough texture of the wheat biscuits in the cereal explains their raspy voices. Maybe their irritability is a result of a high fiber diet that causes them to constantly need to visit the loo. How they manage to eat the stuff with no arms or discernable mouth is another matter entirely. This is all very confusing, and it leads one to believe that the Dalek race might be a lot happier if they took some proactive steps to get their gluten allergies under control.
