How to Open a Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7

Categories: Tech Support

If you ever wanted to do something that windows says you cannot do its probably because either you should not be doing it( if that’s the case you are on your own) or it’s because you need to be elevated to Administrator to do so.
When following the guide below you may get prompted by UAC to allow your action. If you do not know why then its safe to assume you should not be messing with this and be taking your machine to a technician instead.

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Click on All Programs and Accessories, then right-click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator.
Or you could try
  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. In the Start Menu search box area, type “cmd” and press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.

You should not have a newly opened command line with “Administrator” somewhere in the title bar.
