'The Walking Dead' TV Series Adds Its First Cast Member

MTV’s Splashpage – The living are starting to flock towards “The Walking Dead,” as actor Jon Bernthal has become the first official cast member for the AMC television series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bernthal will play Shane, the best friend of series protagonist and fellow police officer Rick Grimes. Bernthal is best known on television for his role on “Eastwick” and the currently airing “The Pacific,” and was most recently seen on the big screen in “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” and “The Ghost Writer.”
In “The Walking Dead,” Shane is part of a group of survivors that avoided the initial zombie outbreak. He is thrust into a leadership role and put in charge of Lori and Carl Grimes, the mother and son of the presumed dead Rick. Shane is initially happy when Rick discovers the survivors and reunites with his family, but when his dynamic within the group is threatened, Shane finds himself dangerously bitter towards his former colleague and friend. Aside from Bernthal’s casting, little is known about who will star in “The Walking Dead.” That fact is sure to change soon as the pilot episode is set to begin filming in May, meaning that a wave of announcements is likely just around the corner.
